Floritec builds new breeding location in Colombia
Breeder Floritec announces the construction of a new breeding location in Colombia. This announcement follows the successful launch of the facility in Honselersdijk, the Netherlands, in 2023.
Strong growth
Floritec's expansion in Colombia reflects its strong growth in the South American market. Managing director Jeroen Ravensbergen: "Floritec is experiencing a stormy development in Colombia. As part of our strategy, we aim for further growth and professionalisation. This now requires its own specially developed facilities".
Floritec has been active in the Colombian market since 2009 and has since used Capiro's facilities to carry out its breeding activities. This has led to a solid partnership. Therefore, the new site is now being developed in close consultation with Capiro, combining expertise and resources to create a leading breeding site.
About Floritec
Floritec operates globally and has been working closely with its Japanese parent company, Inochio Seikoen, market leader in large-flowered chrysanthemum, among others, since 2019. Partly due to this cooperation, both companies are strengthening their market position and Floritec is making great strides in its development.
Ravensbergen: "Floritec's mission is to develop relevant and leading varieties in close cooperation with customers. Through on-site development, we are able to develop varieties with reduced susceptibility to diseases and pests and that are perfectly suited to local growing and climate conditions: Customized Breeding. The facilities in Colombia will be the basis for chrysanthemums developed for the South American market."
Location
The new location is in Rionegro, Antioquia. The size is 6,000 m2. Work has now started and the facilities are expected to be operational by the end of 2024.
