Milestone for Santini Calimero: 500 million stems produced worldwide
Over 500 million Santini Calimero chrysanthemum stems have now been produced and traded worldwide. This significant milestone places Calimero among the most successful santini series in the global chrysanthemum market and confirms its position as a long-term market standard.
Compact, distinctive and versatile santini variety
Santini Calimero is grown worldwide and is available as both a cut chrysanthemum and a potted plant. The series is characterised by compact flowers of approximately 2 centimetres in diameter combined with strong, sturdy stems. These traits make Calimero reliable in production and versatile throughout the entire supply chain.
Creative freedom for florists
Thanks to its compact habit and refined flower size, Calimero is suitable for a wide range of floral applications. From modern and contemporary designs to bridal work, biedermeiers, bouquets and classic arrangements. The series offers florists creative flexibility and a consistent, recognisable look.
Grown worldwide, valued locally
Santini Calimero is available in a colour range of nine colours and is cultivated worldwide. A major share of production takes place at Dalat Hasfarm in Vietnam.
In Europe, Calimero was grown for many years by LS Santini and is mainly available from mid-April to mid-October.
Recognition of shared commitment
To mark this milestone, Dalat Hasfarm and LS Santini were recently honoured with a commemorative plaque, presented by the breeder of this variety, Fred van der Meer.

Other customers who have contributed to Calimero’s success are also being recognised. These include Straathof, Plantenkwekerij Valstar, Schoenmaker/Terra Viva, and Blomsterringen. They will receive a festive token of appreciation in recognition of their contribution.

“When developing Calimero, the focus was on compactness, flower quality and reliable performance. The fact that the series has been embraced worldwide and continues to prove its value year after year is largely thanks to the growers and partners working with it every day,” says Fred van der Meer.
This milestone highlights the strength of long-term cooperation and market-driven breeding.
